Game Aborted and The Third Brother

Ramble #13: Game Aborted and The Third Brother

With today being my first day focusing on my 5+1 challenge, I was looking forward to getting some time in playing Star Wars The Old Republic. Sadly, that was not to be since somehow there was more patching to be performed. So instead, I took to reading comics while I was waiting and got through a really cool issue of Thor that focused on his two brothers – Loki and Baldur. Not only did I like the interplay between family members but the comic also provided an introduction to someone quite important to the War of the Realms event that’s going on in current (2019) Marvel.

Thor, Malekith, and SWTOR

Star Wars…The Patching

So I guess after I made sure that everything was playable yesterday, SWTOR dropped another patch or something.  I knew they were upgrading to something called Onslaught but I thought I had pulled down everything Saturday.  Obviously not because when I fired the game up this morning, it started patching…and patching…and patching.  It must have gone on for an hour or so, I gave up waiting and moved on to play LOTRO and then SWL but I had to comment on my frustration.  Perhaps tomorrow I’ll get a chance to get things rolling.

Whatever Happened to Balder the Brave? by Walter Simonson, John Workman Jr., and Christie Scheele.  Published by Marvel Comics, 1984.  With my interest in reading the War of the Realms, I decided I’d read up on some of the material leading up to the event and according to the Marvel Unlimited suggestion, this title kicks things off.  And I’m glad I took a look at it since this is a fun issue that not only introduces the Dark Elf, Malekith, but also provides a nice story about Balder, another son of Odin.  The basic plot is that Odin wants to deliver a message to his estranged son, Loki, and the contents are so sensitive that he only trusts his son Baldur to deliver it.  Baldur races thru multiple trials to get to Loki and in the end, the evil trickster forces Baldur to forgo his vow of non-violence or suffer death.  Along the way we learn that Malekith and Loki are in cahoots and that the dastardly elf is the cause for Odin’s message to Loki.  It’s a great story, well contained in a single issue and I definitely recommend it as a Read.  If you’re going through the current War of the Realms event, it’s a Must Read.

It’s a Wrap

I suppose that even though I didn’t get to play my SWTOR noob zone, I did get to enjoy some god reading. Tomorrow I think I’ll try to see if I can fire up and create my new Jedi Guardian as I want that to be my first character of a few. I’m actually looking at making a Sith Sorcerer and an Imperial Agent since I want to get a feel for multiple storyline in what I’ve heard is a pretty good story based MMO.
