Rain in SD, Rain in AZ

It seems that rain was the theme of the day. Rain here in San Diego, where I was running a race and rain in Arizona where they were supposed to be starting their Spring Training games.

Average Joe Run

Today I ran my first race in many years. Sure, I’ve trained off and on over that time, but this was an organized run…and it was fun. I wasn’t happy with the fact that I had to get down to the event at 6 AM, but I dealt with waking up early and getting on the road before the sun came up.

So there I was at the starting line, so early, and it started pouring rain. I’m actually surprised how hard it rained this morning. It felt like a monsoon, and I’m just glad it was short. But then I was soaked. Oh well.

This also was an event that I signed up for through my workplace, and there were about 12 of us all out in the pouring rain, I’ll be surprised if no one calls in sick on Monday. And it was cold for San Diego. Ok…boohoo for us, it was below 60 degrees and raining…sorry, San Diego doesn’t get weather like this much.

On to the run. It was a 5k, which is less than I’ve been running on my training runs, but as opposed to my training, I had to dodge in and out of people, and I had to run early in the morning and deal with rain.

The run was good. I ran in under 38 minutes, which was perfectly fine for me, mainly because I took a detour and ran with my coworkers, so I wasn’t focusing on trying to go too fast. Actually, the idea of the ‘Average Joe’ part of the race was that you were considered to have ‘won’ the race if you have the AVERAGE run time, not the fastest time. It was kinda interesting.

I didn’t get the average time or fastest time, but I enjoyed myself none-the-less. And now, I’m starting to look for future races to sign up for. We’ll see how it goes

Spring Training Games

I was totally excited for the games to begin, but when I checked on things this afternoon, so many were canceled or postponed. What was going on in Arizona today? I mean, we had rain here in San Diego, but they have Spring Training in Arizona because it’s dry there in February and March.

My assumption and hope are that the games will begin tomorrow. I’ll be keeping an eye on the MLB app and my radio, so hopefully, I’ll get my first fix of the year.

It’s a Wrap

So today was a bit of fitness and anticipation. Too bad Spring Training only partially started. There’s always tomorrow though.
