The Seesaw and Waste

The Angel game today was a seesaw affair which nicely ended with my team in the lead. My gaming time today, however, was sadly a waste of time. Why do people intentionally try to ruin others’ gametime?

Waste of Time

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I jumped back into League of Legends to see where things were at for this 10th season of the game. I haven’t been in the game since the beginning, but I’ve at least posted about the MOBA since 2014 and season 4. In those 6 seasons (4 thru 10), I’ve had a love/hate affair with the game and have been an on again – off again player who never really reached further than Gold I ranked play.

Once again, I recall why I leave this game often…

There are too many AFKs and trolls.

Case in point, in 3 games I played today, I had the pleasure of having a full team to start the first game and ended up with our Support Maokai leaving after 5 minutes and 2 deaths. Sadly, I was 12/3 by the 20-minute mark when we surrendered because though I was playing well, the game was unwinnable.

In game number 2, I enjoyed the refusal of my team to REMAKE at 3 minutes when out jungler did not show up. The top laner insisted the Lee Sin was going to show up, but he never did…another wasted 20 minutes.

Finally, in the best game of them all, I had the joy of having a troll Olaf on my team. He was supposed to be our support, but I’m pretty sure he never went to the bot lane. Instead, he ran around in circles mid lane with me for a bit then stole red buff from our jungler. He never purchased any items and somehow managed a single kill just by being in the right place when another of our teammates died, and a turret killed the enemy champ.

Long story even longer, I really hate this game. But I love it too. There is a lot of potential in the game, and when you have a decent team, the game is enjoyable even if you lose. The problems, though, are so frustrating. So many people get their kicks trolling of going AFK that the game is almost unplayable.

I wish Riot would introduce a payment structure so people would value their accounts as much as I value my time. If people had to pay to play the game through a subscription or season pass or something, I think there would be a lot fewer people willing to throw away their accounts by trolling, going AFK, or performing other activities to get banned.

Without a structure in place to make people value their account, there will always be more trolls and people willing to rage quit than I can deal with. I’m sure I’ll be back to the game to try it out again, but I really hate League of Legends.

Back and Forth

The game had a total of 17 hits, 18 runs, and 6 errors but in the end, the Angels were able to pull off a victory against the Indians today.

The Angels started with a lead they immediately gave back in the 2nd. The Indians took the lead in the 4th and gave it back in the 6th, but they got it back again in the same inning. Then the Angels took the lead for good.

It was a pretty crazy game with too many errors and sloppy play, but a win is a win. Andrew Heaney did not look too good in his 3 innings of work, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, but I’m hoping he gets his kinks worked out in the Spring.

The win brings the Angels to a game below .500 for the Spring, and I’m hoping they bump things up to the 6–6 mark tomorrow against the Mariners.

We’ll see.

It’s a Wrap

I suppose playing League of Legends is kinda like rooting for the Angels. I know things are not always gonna be good, and often there’s gonna be a lot of frustration. Sometimes though, even with up-and-down battles, through AFKs and trolls, the games can be fun, and I gain some enjoyment from watching and playing.

I just wish it was more often.
