Origining Cyborg and Plotting a Star Trek

My look at rewatching Star Trek took a little bit of a detour today but I think things are still looking positive since I did watch The Cage and am ready to ramble about it…I just got sidetracked as I sat down to write today. But even with that left turn, I rambled on for a while about the show and then turned my attention to another DC Comic. Cyborg Rebirth kicks off the character into the Rebirth era and while I’ve kinda seen Victor Stone in the movies and some TV shows, I haven’t seen much of him in comics. I’m looking forward to it.

Pilot Project: Star Trek

Going back to the beginning of the Original Star Trek series is an interesting thing since the first episode really didn’t air on ‘regular’ television until the mid 80s. When it first was presented to the network executives in 1965, Gene Roddenberry was told to film another pilot episode.

Personally, I don’t think this episode is that bad. Sure, it could have a better pacing and after decades of the logical Spock, it’s a bit abrasive to see Nimoy shouting and smiling, but I think the show gets it’s general ideas across. For me, those are the ideas that we’re on a trek through space where strangfe things happen, we meet the unexpected, and things aren’t always safe for us humans.

Regardless of what the network executives thought or how well the show was received when it first aired, I’m looking back at over 50 years of Star Trek with reverence and honor. This is a show that helped push Mankind to the Moon, encouraged the thought that people of all races, religions, and backgrounds could work together for the betterment of the whole society, and crafted a positive view of the future that I think is desperately needed at this time in history.

I was gonna look at The Cage and ramble about my thoughts on the episode but I kinda got off track. Instead, I’m gonna let this ramble stand and look at a more methodical approach to rewatching the series…one I think I might use for other series as I spend time watching or rewatching them. That plan is gonna be a bit like what I am doing for comics…Ramble, Recommend, Review.

I have been rambling about shows I watch off and on but I haven only been writing up recommendations for comics thus far. I want to take a look at wether I suggest someone watch the different episodes and then I want to look more in depth in a review that looks at things closer.

Like most things I do or plan to do, I may give this thing up quickly, but I’m gonna give it a try.

We’ll see how it goes.

Another Origin Story

Cyborg: Rebith #1

Cyborg has never been my favorite DC superhero but I wanted to give him a chance so I was excited to take a peek at this Rebirth story. It turns out to be pretty much a recap of his origin coupled with the kickoff of a mystery.

We get to see how Silas Stone fathered and created Cyborg and we’re introduced to Malware, a malevolent robotic antagonist that seems to be working for some big bad behind the scenes.

While we get the origin of Cyborg we really don’t see much about the bad guy’s motivations other than he’s being driven by some outside force.

The issue was interesting enough that I’ll keep going with the series for now but they’re gonna have to work on the art to make me start enjoying this title. Between Paul Pelletier, Sandra Hope, and Tony Kordos, I really thought Malware was muddy and ill defined and it really hurt the book in my opinion.

It’s a Wrap

Another weekend with the China Flu circulating in the wild and another week finished working from home. This is getting to be a habit…aka, the “New Normal” but it’s still weird too. In any case, I’m happy to have Blapril to help distract me from watching the news 24/7.

Blapril hasn’t been without it’s issues though as I’ve had to fight with Word Press a bit to ensure that my posts were getting published. As things stand, I had posts I submitted on Thursdsay that I’m only seeing on my site today. I think I’ve got things working though…we’ll see.

In any case, I took a look at Star Trek and how I want to try to incorporate a rewatch of that great show into my regular posting and I looked at the origin of Cyborg in the Rebirth era and it’ll be interesting to see how he progresses through the mystery that was introduced.
