Star Trek and Another Home Loss

Daily Ramble 233: Star Trek and Another Home Loss

While I played some LOTRO and Rift Prime today I didn’t put anything together to ramble about regarding them. I did get a chance to read a Star Trek comic and watch the Angels game. Another painful loss certainly deserved a ramble but then so did the neat comic I read.

First Look at Star Trek: Waypoint #4

*The Fragile Beauty of Loyalty* by Vivek J. Tiwary, Hugo Petrus, and Fran Gamboa. Published by IDW in 2017.

I haven’t read many Star Trek comics nor do I know much about the Enterprise years but this comic is listed as one of the first taking place in time. And actually looking at the dat of in the issue, it says this is taking place a couple years from now in 2020. Hmm – I didn’t know things from Captain Archer’s timeline traced all the way back to events that will occur in our lifetime.

In any case, the story in this issue deals with an adventurous young Jonny Archer who is enjoying one of his last hikes into the Nacacijin Gorge with his puppy Maska. The family is moving to San Francisco soon and Jonny wants to have fun in the snow since there won’t be much of that in California.

Problems start when an unknown alien appears and kicks Archer into a frozen lake. Luckily, the dog is there to help rescue him. And in a very emotional few scenes, not only does the dog save Archer, but Jonny has to save the dog.

This is just a short little tale, but it certainly evokes emotion and makes me hope all Star Trek comics are like this.

The twist of the story is pretty cool as we learn that the alien was actually from the future and crewmen on the Enterprise also sent someone back to thwart the attack on young Archer.

It was an enjoyable issue, well written but the story has kinda been done before. Still, I like it and give it a **B** rating.

If you find yourself in Schenectady in December 2020, keep your eyes open for little Jonny Archer and his puppy.

This issue can be found on Comixology or at your local comic book store. And right now, you can even borrow this issue from Comixology Unlimited.

Loss in 12

Well, it looks like the curse of Anaheim Stadium is still alive and well for the Angels. After coming back from a 3-0 deficit, the team ended up going into extra innings and while the bullpen kept things tied for a few innings, Ramirez gave up 2 runs in the 12th. The Angels had plenty of opportunities to score the winning run but the just couldn’t plate anyone.

Justin Upton gets my Player of the Game after going 2 for 4 and scoring 2 RBIs and he needs to keep hitting since teams are walking Trout all the time. The Twins walked him 4 times yesterday and the Angels need to start making teams pay for that maneuver.

Today the two teams face off again and hopefully the Angels will be able to split the series that they should have won.Ohtani goes for the Angels against Fernando Romero who hasn’t allowed a run yet in 2 games this year.
