Ramble for July 14, 2022

I just wanted to throw together a few thoughts about things that have been going on…my Angels, stuff I’ve been reading, and Ms. Marvel’s season finale. It’s pretty surprising but with a win, the Angels really made this a good day. Let’s hope things continue in that fashion.

The Rundown

  • Continuing my read of Judas Unchained

The first book of The Commonwealth Saga was so good, I jumped right into the second and I am still enjoying it. Judas Unchained picks up right where Pandora’s Star left off and things are definitely ramping up. All my favorite characters are back – Ozzie, Paula Myo, Mellanie, and all the vast cast of characters as well as the aliens…and once again, this is a looong book. I’m looking forward to learning some more about how the aliens and humans get along in the next several hundred pages.

  • Surprisingly, my Angels Win – Ohtani must have pitched

Yup, these days, if the Angels pick up a win, it must be Ohtani on the mound. He’s been pretty dominant lately, not that it means a certain win based on how the Angels have been playing lately. The only 2 wins the team has had in July have been when Ohtani pitches, and in June it was pretty much the same. The other day, the Angels GM held a press conference where he said HE focused on improving the pitching during the off season…if this is better than I must misunderstand the meaning of the word. I think the team should fire the GM and bring Madden back. It obviously was not his fault the team is so bad this season, it is and has been the GM’s doing.

  • Watching Ms. Marvel finale

Apparently Ms. Marvel has been getting some pretty poor viewership numbers but I have to admit that I’ve really enjoyed the show. Sure, the writing pushed the audience into the Islamic world pretty heavily, but I did not mind. And I actually felt like I learned a few things about the breakup of India and Pakistan that I was unaware of. Beyond the religious and political landscape, I think the story was interesting and I liked the fact that we had the development of another high school Scooby gang focused around a strong female superhero. I’m hopeful that even with the poor viewership ratings, the show will get a second season and I’ve already read the comics so I think future storylines pulled from there will be pretty good. Regardless, I think Ms. Marvel is a worthy addition to the MCU and hope to see more of her in the future.
