Ramble for July 22, 2022

Friday at Comic-Con is always a lot of fun and tends to have some cool announcements. Here are a few of my take-aways from San Diego Comic-Con 2022 on Friday.

BRZRKR

This is gonna be an interesting film and animated series that could stretch the willingness of Netflix to present violence on their screens. While I’ve enjoyed the first volume of this series, I will say there is lots of blood and destruction, which, while fun to see in comics, might be a bit hard to take on the screen. It will be interesting to see how Netflix and Keanu Reeves are able to pull this off, but I am thinking the animated series might be a little easier for the general audience to swallow. In any case, I’m looking forward to this property coming to the screen.

Paper Girls

Wait…What? This is coming out July 29th? Wow!

Ok, this is gonna be a cool series! It’s based on the comic books of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan, and I am excited to see that this is being made into a series. The comic about a group of pre-teen paper girls has all kinds of interesting things going on, from time travel to aliens, monsters, and future versions of the kids themselves.
I’ve read the first few volumes and loved them, so am pretty excited to see where this goes. Hopefully, Amazon will not mess with the script to inject politics and other BS to drag down the great story.

The Rings of Power

Of course, this is the big feature for the day. Amazon’s long-awaited Lord of the Rings series is almost here, and I am excited! Hall H was made for this type of panel, and I would say that even if I had gone to Comic-Con this year, I would have avoided this – it’s just too much. I know there were people camped out for days to see this panel, and sadly, I am not the type of fan that does that anymore. Instead, I am afraid to catch COVID, so I watch the goings on from home. Oh well…maybe next year.
In any case, this, of course, looks like it will be great!
Set well before the events in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, here is a trailer that gives a hint at what to expect…
