Blaugust 2022 Day 1

Blaugust is back, and I’m excited to see all my blogging buddies, read what they’re up to, and jump back into the community.

This 2022 version seems a lot like the 2021 version for me, though…I’m just getting back into the office after dealing with Covid – this time, we had 5 people test positive at work, so I was working from home for the past couple of months. I also find myself without much in the way of games that I’m running through. I’ve got a Beorning in LOTRO that’s been parked for months; I’ve been meaning to jump into Secret World Legends again (this time before Halloween), and I’m dying to get back into the tournament I started to determine what game I’m gonna focus my attention on until I actually complete the dang thing. But even with these plans and ideas, I haven’t made much headway.

Other than that, I finished off the book I was reading about a week ago, I haven’t been reading many comics, and I even skipped Comic-Con though I had tickets (thanks to Covid). It really feels like I am reliving Blaugust 2021 over again, where I came into the month with pretty much the same set of experiences and situations.

I think that means I have the opportunity to make things turn out better this time around.

So what can I do to make things better?

Hmm. Here’s the first run of a brainstorming session to see what I can do to get things moving in a more positive direction for Blaugust at least, and maybe I can spread things around other areas of my life to get everything headed in a good direction…

On the gaming front, I am looking into starting to play some classics that I never took the chance to play. Games like Minecraft, Skyrim, and Zelda are highly acclaimed and rated by people from all walks of life, and I think if I give them a chance, perhaps they can push me out of my gaming malaise.

On the comics side, I’m looking to get back into my chronologies…Marvel, DC, and Star Wars all have a timeline that I am interested in learning more about. I’ve started reading them before and made a small dent, but there are so many issues in each of these groupings that I could read for years and maybe even decades and not catch up. I just need to lay out a plan to get started.

On the reading side of things, I think it’s about time I reread another classic series. A year or so ago, I went through some Issac Asimov again in preparation for the Foundation TV show, and I reread Dune for the Dune movie, so I think maybe I should reread Tolkien as the new Lord of the Rings TV show is coming out soon.

Finally, I have a bunch of TV shows I’ve been rewatching, and on the first watch side of things, I’m really enjoying new shows like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Paper Girls, and I am still completely lost in Westworld, but I think I’m gonna do another rewatch of something that hasn’t come back yet…Babylon 5. I have heard that there is going to be a reboot of Babylon 5 but that it’s been delayed for a year. That’s perfect for me to start a rewatch to relive the greatness of this unique story.

Well, that was not my plan for the first post of Blaugust 2022, but I suppose that is what happens when I don’t have the time to write up a first draft and edit my posts. My plans were to get this first-day post ready to go last week, but things, like usual, got way too busy for me to achieve that goal.

I really wanted to say “Hi” to all the bloggers out there that are joining in on the great Blaugust 2022 event, and I wanted to welcome all the new bloggers who are giving this thing a try. Try to ignore my malaise and rambling and recognize that even someone who babbles about not playing games, not reading comics, and not watching shows has the opportunity to join in on this Blaugust thing and be a part of the community.
