Ramble for August 1, 2022

With how bad my baseball team is doing, at least there is Blaugust. Comic-Con is over, the Angel’s season is over, and the summer heat is ramping up, so it’s good to have Blaugust to occupy my focus and keep me distracted from all my disappointments.

Blaugust 2022 Day 1 – The first day of Blaugust 2022 has arrived, and I am excited to be participating again. Of course, while I planned to prepare posts and jot down first drafts, that never happened. Always too busy to do things the way I want to do them. Oh well, I am excited and will work to try to roll out 31 posts for the event. I’m also looking forward to all the posts from my fellow bloggers. This is always a good time to see what others are doing and what their thoughts are on the current blogosphere and games in general.

  • Angels lost again – Another game, another loss. This really has become a throwaway season…another one. I wonder what type of position player the management will go after this off-season? They certainly will not pick up a pitcher because they don’t need one. They haven’t needed any pitching for years. Actually, I am pretty sure there is collusion going on between Artie Moreno and player agents. Every year agents know the Angels need pitching and are involved in talks for free agent pitchers. This drives up the price since the Angels have money to spend. Then Artie Moreno makes some random deal for a high-priced position player that will get injured but still get paid for the 5-year contract he signed. Really pathetic. I’m gonna root for the Padres the rest of the season. At least their management tries to build a good team.
  • Immaculate Inning – I suppose that in all the horrible news about how the Angels are playing, it’s a good thing to point out that Reid Detmers pulled off a remarkable feat on Sunday. He threw an Immaculate Inning. That is 9 pitches…all strikes…all three outs are strikeouts. It’s not very common, and he is only the 3rd pitcher to throw an Immaculate Inning in the same year that he threw a No Hitter. He joined Sandy Koufax and Mike Fiers as the only pitchers to achieve both those feats in the same season. I suppose that is something to be happy about while the Angels lost the game.
