Revisiting Uncanny Archet

Daily Ramble 231: Revisiting Uncanny Archet

Today’s ramble takes me from restarting in Archet to winning at home, and finally reading an uncanny press release. With the troubles in Archet yesterday I started my journey through Middle Earth again, and as I restart, I get to watch the Angels bring their winning ways home. I also jump back into reading he AvX storyline as the X-Men try to pull a PR stunt to bring public opinion to their side against the Avengers.

Revisiting Archet

With the troubles I ran into yesterday with Catathein, she decided to hang up her spear, but I’m determined to try again. So I head to Rohan this time to try to find another Warden to journey through Middle Earth with. Once there, I actually run into Cat’s sister, Katethein, and she’s more than willing to travel with me.

So we head back to meet up with Strider only to be waylaid by brigands at nearly the same spot Cat and I were.

Strider came to help us get outta the makeshift jail and we all teamed up to break away from the camp. Unfortunately, when we finally met up with Amdir, the Nazgul had already appeared and Amdir was struck down. Were we doomed to repeat the same tragedy?

Only time will tell, but Kat and I are determined to do what we can to help Strider and Amdir. And with my knowledge of what happened in Archet last time and the betrayal of Calder Cob, perhaps we can prevent the burning of the town.

Unable to stop the Nazgul perhaps we can better persuade Captain Brackenbrook of the danger, but that’ll have to wait until next time.

First Look at Uncanny X-Men (vol 2) #11

Avengers Vs. X-Men by Keiron Gillen, Greg Land, and Jay Leisten. Published by Marvel Comics 2012.
It’s been a while (since February) since I took a look at how the Avengers vs. X-Men story is going and the nice thing about comics is I can go right back where I left off. And the good thing about this event is that there are a bunch of issues that provide different perspectives on the same events. This issue of Uncanny X-Men focuses on the mutants and how they’re dealing with the Avengers assault and Hope’s emerging Phoenix powers.

We get to see Cyclops slam Captain America with his eye beams again and that event will never get old. But essentially we see more of the internal thoughts of Scott and his recognition that with the Phoenix coming it’s finally time that the mutants can start to forge their way into the future.

We see how Unit has been influencing Hope and controlling Danger and how Hope doesn’t want to hurt any of the mutants but she’s gotta get away from Utopia. She knocks out the students from Jean Grey’s school and then takes down Wolverine and Spider-Man with a flick of her wrist. The Phoenix power is truly impressive.

The biggest battle of the issue though is Red Hulk against Colossus and this fight threatens to bring down the whole island. Actually, it’s a pretty even fight until Hulk starts to win. At that point, Colossus transforms fully into Juggernaut and let’s Cyttorak take over. He starts beating Hulk to a pulp but when he realizes Utopia might fall into the sea if the fight continues, Piotr takes off the Juggernaut helmet and uses all his willpower to return to his normal form so Hulk can end the fight.

With Colossus defeated and Hope off the island, Cyclops triggers the Avengers Protocol…and Kadie Kildare publishes a worldwide press release detailing the treachery of the Avengers and the racism and genocide that has to be stopped even if it means the mutants must go to war.

It was a really good issue that puts into perspective the mutant side of the fight. They clearly do not want this war but Captain America and the Avengers have pushed them into a corner. They will fight and there will be consequences but Scott surely wants the world to know that this was not their choice.

I rate this issue a B+.

Starting off the Home Stand Right

The Angels had their ace pitcher throwing yesterday in the opener of their 11 game home stand and all indications were that things were gonna start off right.

And the team fulfilled that promise even though Garrett Richards didn’t pitch all that well. Giving up 3 runs in 5 1/3 innings, Richards left the game with the lead but the bullpen couldn’t hold on. Instead, they gave up the tying run before the offense put the game away for good 7–4.

On the night, the Angels had 3 home runs, from Upton, Kinsler, and Ohtani, and with 12 hits, the offense was certainly looking good. Kinsler and Simmons each had 3 hits but for Kinsler, this will hopefully help him break outta his slump. Breaking above the Mendoza line with his 3 for 4 night, I give him my Player of the Game and hope Kinsler keeps moving back to his usual good hitting.

Today the Angels continue against Minnesota with Tyler Skaggs pitching against Lance Lynn. Skaggs brings a 3–2 record with an ERA of 3.08 while Lynn is 1–3 with a 7.28 ERA. The action starts at 7:07 pm PT.
