After the Battle of Archet

After the Battle of Archet things were not looking good for the town. Buildings were burned out and still smoldering and many good people were injured, dead, or dying. Kat and I did what we could for the survivors but there was only so much we could do to help.

If only we had made it to the town quicker we might have made more of a difference. As it was, we were able to save a bunch of the townsfolk and drive off the Blackwold and Angmar forces but as I mentioned last time, we lost Amdir and Captain Brackenbrook. But that is the past and we have to look forward and help the survivors if we’re to find Amdir and defeat the forces of evil in Middle Earth.

Moving Forward

Speaking with Jon Brakenbrook in the immediate aftermath, there was a lot of work to do around the town but his primary concern was helping the injured, burying the dead and assisting those in the outer parts of Archet. Folks fought bravely to defend the town and some gave their lives stopping evil, these people deserved any help we could provide even if that was only a proper burial. So Kat and I ran about Archet and the nearby farms to see if we could administer bandages, help with funerals and see if there was anything else that needed our assistance.

Sadly, we found too many dead. And one thing that really bothered me…Spiders.

Apparently with the townsfolk defending against the Blackwolds, an infestation of spiders sprang up at Cal Sprigley’s farm and these guys look mean!

We’ll deal with these critters soon enough, but first Kat and I looked to honor those that fell in battle. Dirk Mudbrick, Nate Whisperwood, and poor Will Wheatley who was just a young lad on Sprigley’s Farm all needed a final resting place. It really made Kat and I mad that Calder Cob and the Blackwolds would do something like this to their neighbors and people they had once called friends. It made me wonder what evil was out there that could drive these savages to such depravity.

With the fallen defenders laid to rest and prayers said, Kat and I turned our attention to the matters of Sprigley’s Farm. According to Cal Sprigley, the place is overrun by spiders and I wonder if during the attack all the bustle on the Old East Path to town caused the spiders to move down to Sprigley’s Farm. They were after all pretty numerous when I last checked the East Gate before the fighting.

Sure enough, when Kat and I got down to the farm there were giant spiders everywhere. They were no match for her spear and javelin though and we easily made our way through the farm looking for things Cal and his wife Holly needed. With the seed bag, strongbox, and bow in hand we returned to town to let the farmers know what’s become of their home. But rather than give in to despair and start a new life in the town, the sturdy farmer insisted he wanted to return to his farm. If only we could cleanse the infestation. Of course there was no question that Kat and I would help.

Next time Kat and I talk with Alti Spider-bane to see what can be done about all the dastardly critters on Cal’s farm and we find out that we might have a lead as to what’s happened with Amdir.
