First Look at All-New Wolverine #3

The first thing I saw when reading the All-New Wolverine #3 is that Wolverine is taking on Taskmaster and it’s pretty cool. Sure, this villain can pretty much duplicate anything an opponent does or anticipate their moves, but he doesn’t have claws.

My Reading:

The last issue ended on a sad note as Taskmaster showed up after Wolverine and the sisters knocked out all the Alchemax security forces and he proceeded to shoot the 3 sisters. That was it – Laura had failed to protect them. Well, that didn’t go over too well and she lashed out at the newcomer. Taskmaster is pretty talented and able to anticipate opponent’s moves in combat but Wolverine is pretty pissed off. While he can predict her moves she still gains the upper hand and is ready to stuff her claws into his eyes when she pulls back. She’s still holding to her non-killing vow…for the moment.

She knocked him out and as she turns the leave, the sisters are getting up. Apparently they were wearing body armor and somehow, Taskmaster failed to anticipate that. He pays for that failure with his kneecaps. He won’t be following them any time soon. The four women climb outta the sewers, into a an armored car, and start their get away. Unfortunately Alchemax’s chief of security, Captain Mooney, put a tracker on Wolverine and is following them…but not for long as Laura leaps outta the car and rips off his steering wheel…ut oh!

As Laura finds the sisters again, Zelda’s hurt. It turns out she’s not really injured but the techniques Alchemax used to clone them stole years off their lives and set them up to die young. She’s dying. So Kinney does the only thing she can think of…she takes them to the home of Doctor Strange to see if he can heal them.

What did I learn:

  • Wolverine is sticking to her non-lethal force vow.
  • The sisters are pretty smart to use body armor.
  • Taskmaster isn’t as good as he thinks he is.

My Thoughts:

This was a pretty good issue even though it was slightly less exciting as the first two. I liked watching the fight between Wolverine and Taskmaster and was pleased to see that while the villain was good, he was not able to anticipate, or was at least unable prevent, everything Wolverine was gonna do. I respect the idea that Laura wants to be non-lethal, but she’s got blades coming outta her hands…someone might die even if it is an accident. I also liked that the sisters kneecapped Taskmaster after Laura defeated him. You really don’t need that guy coming after you. Although this issue was a bit of a slowdown, I am still pretty amped about reading the rest of the story.

My Rating: B-
