Can I Pitch Coach?

With Mike Trout still day-to-day with a wrist injury the Angels need the rest of the team to step up…and some are. Too bad others are stepping down.

One Out

I guess the Angels don’t have any other starters to put on the mound with all the injuries they’ve had this season but Deck McGuire certainly is not a major league starter. I even question if he should be considered a major league pitcher at this point.

He got one out on Sunday.

One out!

Entering the game with a 6.23 ERA as a starter, Deck gave up 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning and put the team in a hole they couldn’t get out of. 2 singles, 2 hit batters, a walk, a wild pitch, and a home run. There’s quite a few minor league pitchers, college pitchers, or even high school pitchers who could at least have matched that performance and I’d say most could do better.

So why is this guy starting for the Angels?

Regardless, the offense tried to come back. Kole Calhoun, Shohei Ohtani, Jose Briceno, and Simmons all picked up 2 hits with Calhoun, Ohtani, and Simmons grabbing an RBI, but it wasn’t enough. They got close but came up short losing 3–4.

Oh well, it’s not like the Angels are trying to win by putting McGuire on the mound. And I’m starting to become insulted by the lack of effort to find a pitcher who can actually compete at a major league level. There’s gotta be someone in the organization that can pitch.

Whatever…with a triple, a single and an RBI, I give Kole Calhoun my Player of the Game but I really think the front office needs to reassess insulting the fans by their choices in pitching.
