New Starts and the Time Stream

Daily Ramble 4 of 2019:

Today I embark on new beginnings, one in books, one in gaming, and in comics I see a return separated by over 50 years. Actually, the gaming start is a restart since I already started Elder Scrolls Online a few years ago. And as for my book reading, I am kinda continuing my reading of Raymond Feist’s Rift War saga as I jump into the next book. And in Comics I get to experience the time traveling nature of Rama Tut first hand as I read 2 issues separated by more than 50 years of Marvel continuity.

Starting out Shadow of a Dark Queen

By Raymond E. Feist, published by Harper Collins, 1994.
It’s been a few months since I read any Raymond Feist and I blame it on the fact that not all his works are available on Audible.com. Too bad, but I’ve figured out what I need to do to listen to those that are not narrated. If I purchase the book in iBooks I can ask Siri to read the story to me. It’s definitely not as elegant as the narrated version but it works and it’s a lot easier to listen to a book while exercising than reading it page by page.

In any case, this story seems to jump forward in time a bit as I just read that Prince Arutha has died. Thomas and Pug are still around or at least spoken of but everyone else I knew from the original Magician trilogy are sadly gone. It’ll be interesting to see other players in this world, but then Feist seems to like starting with fresh characters.

And speaking of new protagonists, this story so far revolves around a bastard son of a Baron who just killed his half-brother. We’re still dealing with Rillanon, Krondor, and Crydee but I’m hoping we might also see a bit more about Kelewan and the other worlds in the Rift. We’ll see…

Re-entry into Tamriel

I was looking back at my posts over the years and I see that I put together a few comments on The Elder Scrolls Online over 4 years ago in April 2014. That was the PC version and as I look at my account I see that I never raised a character above level 6 on the PC. I really don’t know what happened but now that I’m trying it again, I am enjoying the game. I also played on the PS4 and ran my character up above level 15 back in 2016, getting to a higher level since I was playing with friends, still, I never really got into the game.

This time around I’m hoping to get up to max level eventually since I keep hearing good news about how this is one of the most populated MMOs around these days. Somehow I think there’s just a push I need to make to get through to higher levels.

There’s plenty of story and lore, the skills are pretty cool and the combat seems to be enjoyable so I can only see dedication as the reason why I never got very far…I just haven’t been very dedicated to advance in this game. This time will be different and I will be getting to level 20 and beyond…hopefully to max level and even into the champion points that are the end game leveling mechanism.

Wish me luck.

Rama Tut in 1963 and 2018

I suppose I shouldn’t be so surprised by Marvel’s continuity but I certainly was as I was reading Fantastic Four #19 followed by Infinity Countdown: Adam Warlock #1. Two comics separated by more than 50 years featuring the same character. And this was not the principle player either, it was someone who was a villain in one and kinda a provider if information in the other.

Rama Tut showed up in both issues and while I’m not sure Stan and Jack were thinking that this character was gonna stick around for more than 50 years when they created him, it’s pretty cool that he’s there.

I guess the main idea of Rama Tut is that he is a time traveler who spent quite a bit of time in Ancient Egypt as a Pharaoh. In Fantastic Four #19, he is thwarted by our heroes and sent packing back into the time stream while in Infinity Countdown he provides some critical information to Adam Warlock then sends Adam ‘into the time stream’ himself.
