Complexity and Winning

Today was pretty much a lazy summer day even though it was not too hot. I pretty much just relaxed playing some Destiny 2 and continuing my season in Out of the Park Baseball. My Seconds Change League has been fun and after winning a bunch from the cheating Astros I’m headed to face off against the Rangers.

Weapon Complexity

I’ve decided that I would like to see about getting a few decent weapons to use as I work my way through the Curse of Osiris storyline. What I’ve been using so far have been pretty good but there should be plenty of easily obtainable weapons that are better than what I picked up along the way. With that in mind, I headed to the interweb but there is so much I don’t know about this game that I’d end up spending so much time researching and not enough time playing.

So I’m gonna shoot for some low hanging fruit.

And that means I won’t be trying to figure out what the Umbral Engrams and the Prismatic Recaster do. Apparently each season has it’s own special way of getting gear and this time around, they require Umbral Engrams to be decoded and used with the Prismatic Recaster…or something like that. I’m sure I‘lol figure that all out sooner or later but I want to play the game rather than try to decipher some arcane mechanism for getting gear.

I mean, I understand a grind, but grinding to get things that turn into something else that can be combined into another thing that gets transformed into what you might want if you can level it up. It’s all a load of crap that takes too much effort to figure out.

But then I also find that many of the best PvE weapons require that I spend inordinate amounts of time playing PvP. Or at least that’s what is looks like from the bit of research I’ve done.

Perhaps this is why I gave up on this game before – the end game becomes complex simply for complexity sake.

In any case, for now I am enjoying using Scout Rifles as my primary weapon so I am gonna try to get the MIDA Multi-Tool.

This is a multi-step process and actually seems more complex than simply advancing through the campaign.

First I needed to get the MIDA Mini-Tool by completing a mission for Devrim Kay in the EDZ. Then I need to get a quest from Banshee-44, who I had to find in the Tower. That mission requires 50 precision kills with a scout rifle and 25 multi-kills without reloading.

I’m about halfway through these steps.

Then I need to get another quest from Banshee-44 to perform 50 airborne kills with an SMG. This will probably be the most difficult since I’ve not used an SMG yet and I’m not used to jumping around a lot while fighting.

Anyway, from what I can tell, those are the required steps. I’m hoping to get this done soon then I can use the MIDA Multi-Tool to finish off the other campaigns.

A New Opponent

After sweeping the Cheating Astros in Houston to start off the Second Chance League, I’m happy to be heading to the other Texas stadium in Arlington. While the Rangers can be tough, I was getting nervous about keeping up my winning ways against the cheating Astros since they’re a pretty good team even if Out of the Park Baseball doesn’t let them cheat.

Anyway, on to face Texas for a 3 game series and I start out with Patrick Sandoval on the mound going against Jordan Lytes. I also move thins around to start La Stella at leadoff again since Texas favors left handed hitters.

And my strategy paid off right away. La Stella walked to lead off the game and Anthony Rendon smacked the first pitch he saw over the right field fence for a 2-run HR. Texas got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch but the Angels were still ahead.

They added to their lead in the 3rd on a single by Rendon and a towering home run over the right field wall by Mike Trout. Once again, Texas fought to grab back a run and make it 4–2 Angels at the end of the 3rd. They also picked up a run in the 5th but that was all they got.

The Angels ended up winning 4–3 and I kept my win streak alive at 5 games.

This season has really been fun and while a couple of games have been nail-biters, I’m pleased with how my team is doing.

It’s a Wrap

So a lazy Saturday comes to a close with some fun in baseball and Destiny. Actually, I’ve gotta start preparing for my fantasy baseball draft which takes place next weekend. With the real MLB season getting started at the end of July we’re rushing to get the draft going and a season with rules appropriate to 60 games figured out. It’ll be fun, just as today’s games were enjoyable.
