World Champs, Horrors, and Dreaming

The World Series is over, and the Atlanta Braves put up the win. Congratulations to them and their fans since I’m pretty sure they were the only ones who thought they would win the championship in 2021. And while they took down the cheating Astros, I spent some time reading comics, playing New World, and watching some horror television.

Sweet Revenge

I have to start out today with the big news in sports…The Atlanta Braves are the 2021 World Series Champions. I’m sure this is the last thing Commissioner Rob Manfred wanted when he stole the All-Star game from the town earlier this year, but this is his just rewards.

The Braves were able to dominate Milwaukee, the Dodgers, and now Houston, and even though they were a mediocre team (at best) at the trade deadline, they were able to turn things around in style. Great deadline pickups, a team that believed in itself, and management that drove them to win…this is a great story for baseball.

To think – this is the commissioner who basically let Houston off the hook in the biggest cheating scandal in sports in years…the same commissioner who then stole the All-Star game from a team that did absolutely nothing wrong.

Anyway, I’m just glad to see Atlanta get some revenge.

There Really Is a lot of Dreaming

Chapter 40 sees Paul dream about Chani…dream about his mother…dream about…oh he actually wakes up and gets ready for his big test. He’s gonna ride a worm. This is basically the last big test before he can really lead the Fremen. He’s got lots of support from Chani, Stilgar, and the other Fremen around him, but this is something Paul has to do on his own. We’ll see how it goes in the next chapter as Paul gets the thumper pounding, and a big worm is headed his way.

Ran Outta Time

As I’ve mentioned recently, I’ve been enjoying playing League of Legends in the Ranked Flex mode. There seem to be fewer trolls, less frequent AFKs, and the skill level seems to be better than SoloQ. The only issue I have with it is that it takes much longer to get into a game. Today I spent over 15 minutes waiting for a game to start up, and in the end, I had to call it quits. I just didn’t have the time to keep waiting. Oh well – I guess you can’t get everything you want with League.

Leveling Fast

With sword and shield in hand, I marched forward in New World to find the First Light Watchtower, and before I even took 2 steps in my third game session (ok, it was more like 2 fights against the Drowned), I ding level 2. LEvels and skills seem to come pretty quickly so far in this game.

Anyway, I fend off a few more Drowned on the way to the watchtower and meet up with Nora Linch. She gives me some boots, some gold, some XP, and a new task…head to one of the ships and clear it of the Drowned.

I guess it’s not much of a quest, but it focuses on skills I’ve already learned in my 3 game sessions – hack and slash and block and dodge. Further, the mission doesn’t stress me out since I’ve already encountered these Drowned and know I can handle them.

In no time, I’ve found Duncan’s Docket and cleared the shipwreck of Drowned…I even found another ship, Kahn’s Knot, and took down a few more Drowned on the way back…and what do you know, I hit level 3.

As I said, these early levels come fast. So fast, I still don’t know what to do with the attribute points they’re throwing at me. I’ll figure it out soon, though.

What to do When the Expert is Scared

Five more children are killed in the third issue of Something is Killing the Children, and while I like the supernatural aspect of the story, I’m not sure I like the seeming futility of it. We haven’t really seen much evidence that things are going to get better either. Sure, Erica Slaughter – we now know the name of our heroine – talks a good game, but even she indicates that she hasn’t faced many monsters this powerful before. She now seems like she’s getting worried about confronting it, and she seems to be the expert.

Batman’s Son

The Robin staring in this issue is Damian Wayne, and I’m not too familiar with him. This isn’t too bad because we learn that he’s the son of Batman and grandson of Ra’s Al Ghul, but we also learn that with that pedigree, he’s got a pretty large ego. In any case, he’s slipped away from Gotham and hidden from the Bat-Family and is looking to compete in a tournament on Lazarus Island. Unknown to him, though, this little challenge is a fight to the death type of thing, and he’s already losing in issue 1.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

The Easter Vigil Mass has arrived, in Midnight Mass episode 6, and Father Paul is all set to unleash his good news at St. Patrick’s. In the bloodbath that results, there are few survivors, and they are now on the run from the ‘Angel’ and Bev’s army of fresh bloodsuckers. Now we’re seeing a true horror movie on Crockett Island.

It’s a Wrap

So there’s been a bunch of dreaming in Dune and realized dreams in MLB by the Braves; blood all over the church in Midnight Mass and children are falling like flies in Something is Killing the Children. On the whole I’ve been having fun playing Flex in League and NEw World has been pretty enjoyable as I start out. Anyway, I think things are going pretty well and I hope you all had an interesting and enjoyable day as well.
