Running to the Failsafe

Entering into Rift Prime for the first time, Xoma and I are confronted with an urgent mission and we find ourselves running to the Failsafe to get to the past. It seems we’ve been given the opportunity to alter history if we’re quick enough and get to the machine in time.

Last time I posted about Rift Prime, I found a companion to journey with on the Defiant side in the game. Xoma is a Kelari Mage and from the looks of things started out as a Nexus Magus with the souls of an Elementalist, a Stormcaller, and a Pyromancer. This type of mage focuses on damage output and is supposedly easy to play. I’m more interested in throwing something together similar to what’s called a Quintessential Harbinger that uses the Harbinger, Chloromancer, and Elementalist souls, but Xoma tells me she doesn’t know a thing about Harbingers yet so I’m gonna have to wait. With no knowledge of the Harbinger soul, I settle on making molding Xoma into my own type of mage to start with and select the Chloromancer, Elementalist, and the Stormcaller souls.

Waking in the Life Factory

Now that I’ve made my selections, I work with Sylver Valis in the Life Factory to craft Xoma into the Ascended that the Defiant need to defend Telara.

And we have success.

The birth of an Ascended is not an easy thing and with the destruction brought to the world by Regulos, there are fewer and fewer Ascended created than in years past.

But now that Xoma is realized, we’re told that we must make it through Orphiel’s Failsafe into the past to save the world. First we’ve gotta get there.

Dacia Ultran starts us out simply by allowing us to practice our newly learned spells in the relative safety of The Caul. There Xoma and I learn how to cast her spells and control her Earth Elemental, Roxy. We have no troubles taking down the Telaran Husks with Roxy drawing aggro while Xoma chunks down their health with her crystalline missiles, her raging storm, and her vile spores.

But then we see a true beast. The huge Twisted Abomination stands between us and Dacia and it’s not looking like we can get through to her without drawing the attention of the giant beast. Fortunately as a Kelari, Xoma can use her camouflage ability to prevent us from getting stepped on while the other Defiant in the area gang up on the Abomination. It takes a while but through teamwork we’re able to take down the giant and things can get back to ‘normal’.

One thing I will say about Rift is that they have no problem throwing you right into the middle of things. With the Twisted Abomination and the Spectral Harvesters Xoma ran into on the next mission, there was clearly an opportunity for us to die even in the tutorial. So far though, we’ve been luck to have a safe place to retreat to that wasn’t too far away. Hopefully as Xoma gains in power she’ll be able to take these guys without fear of falling in battle.

Running to the Failsafe

Fighting past Soul Callers, undead Telarans, the former Guardian – Shyla The Fallen, we eventually make it to Isach Undugar who’s prepared things at the Failsafe. But then Regulos attacks…he sends Alsbeth the Discordant to stop us and when she fails, Regulos himself shows up in an attempt to stop Xoma from entering the Failsafe. But we make it.

We are transported through time…years into the past where we can make a difference and stop the return of Regulos before he destroys Telara.

Next time Xoma and I will take a look around the machine that brought us into the past and try to get our bearings as to what we should be doing to prevent Regulos from harming the Defiant and devouring Telara.
