Bookkeeping Before Leaving Archet

After defeating the spider-queen in Archet, Kat and I decided to head off to Combe but before we left, we took an inventory of our current quests. One of the main things we’ve figured out in LOTRO is that there are tons of special quests, deeds, virtues, and other stuff that really make paying attention to what you’re doing important. So we wanted to do some bookkeeping before leaving Archet.

Exploring The Honour Virtue

While traits are important, they just kinda happen as you go through the game leveling. Yes, I know they’re important but I’m more concerned with the stuff that I can actively try to get…Virtues and Deeds. When I look at the list of Deeds in Bree-Land, where Archet is and where Kat and I started, there are 36 different Deeds we can work on. That’s a ton! Of course most are things that we can’t work on in our early levels but it’s still good to know they’re there for the future.

The main ones Kat and I are interested in right now are the Virtue Deeds. I’d like to see us get a few here in Bree-Land and then pick up a couple more in The Shire before we start moving further into Middle Earth.

The first one we’re working on was kinda thrown into our lap…Spider-slayer. This basically popped up when we first fought the spiders on the Old East Path to Archet before the Blackwold attack. The Spider-slayer deed requires Kat to kill 30 spiders in Bree-Land.

And I have to say neither Kat nor I can figure out why they use a lowercase ‘l’ for Bree-Land. We just naturally use the uppercase’L’, so I’m gonna stick with that for now…

Anyway, Kat easily mowed through 30 spiders even before the battle of Archet but then that opened up another higher level deed to work on…Spider-slayer (Advanced). This one required Kat to squash 60 spiders. Well, we didn’t get that many before the battle but with Sprigley’s Farm infestation and Atli Spider-Bane’s mission of hunting down the Spider-Queen, we easily stepped on 60 spiders and picked up our first Virtue – Honour.

This Virtue provides +173 Resistance Rating, +51 Tactical Mitigation, and +3 Vitality at rank 1 according to the tool tip. Between Kat and I, we really weren’t sure what all that meant but we knew Vitality was a good thing.

Ok, so I did some research online and found out a few things…

  • Resistance Rating – This does two things, the first is help determine if you even get affected by a particular debuff and the other is to see if you get affected by each ‘pulse’ of the the effects. There’s a complicated calculation used to figure out what Kat’s Resistance Percentage is that I may go over at some point, but now is not the time. +173 seems pretty good to me.
  • Tactical Mitigation – reduces and protects Kat from non-physical damage. Acid, Fire, Frost, Lightning, and Shadow all fall under this category of damage. This is a good thing to have because these types of damage can not be evaded, parried, or blocked. Baseline Tactical Mitigation is calculated as (Armour / 5) + Fate + Will and with +51, the Honour Virtue helps quite a bit.
  • Vitality –
    1. Maximum Morale – for a Warden each point of Vitality adds 5 points to Maximum Morale. And Morale is basically hit points in LOTRO.
    2. Non-Combat Morale Regeneration (NCMR) – NCMR is a measure of how quickly Kat will regenerate lost morale out of combat. There’s an equation for getting the value of NCMR but suffice to say that Vitality is multiplied by 7.2 and added to a couple other things to determine this value.
    3. Resistance Rating – Each point of Vitality contributes 2 points to Resistance Rating for a Warden.

To me, it seems this Honour Virtue has a lot to offer Kat so I slotted it in and Kat seemed to appreciate the added defense. The next Virtue I’m gonna guide Kat towards is granted with the Bree-Land Adventurer Deed. To get this, we need to complete 30 quests in Bree-Land and then we’ll get the Charity Virtue.

With that bit of bookkeeping before leaving Archet outta the way and a bit of a plan for our near future in Bree-Land, Kat and I feel pretty good about heading to Combe.
