First Monday of Blaugust 2019

I hope you are all doing well on this first Monday of Blaugust. I’m having fun as I ramble from gaming to TV to comics and dip my toe into some fun. First I take a look at my recent gaming patterns then I look back at a fun panel from Comic-Con. Finally I scan through the latest Marvel Unlimited releases and pick a few that interest me.

I hope you enjoy my rambling…

Game of Threes

I’ve noticed an interesting trend in my gaming lately, what I am calling my Game of Threes. For some reason I’ve been creating 3 characters at a time in the various games I’ve been trying out and playing.

I think the main reason is I can’t decide on a set of skills I want to focus on but with 3 characters I can usually get what I want. It also allows me to get a feel for different starting locations and maybe factions if there are separate sides to the game. Finally, I’ve got 3 different sets of people I usually like to play with that never seem to pick the same game server.

So yeah, in FFXIV, I’ve got characters on Goblin, Cactuar, and Excalibur and even though any character can play all jobs, I picked so I could start at the 3 different starting zones – Lima’s Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul’dah.

In LOTRO, I’ve got a Minstrel, a Warden, and a Rune Keeper and of course have strung them across servers. They also cover 3 races to get a feel of the different areas.

In Star Trek Online, I have one of each – Engineer, Science Officer, and Command (Tactics) Officer. And in Elder Scrolls Online I’ve grabbed a Necromancer, and both a Stamina and Magic Templar.

So somehow, I’ve come across the idea that having 3 different characters is a good idea. I usually try to level them all at about the same rate, which is usually pretty slow but I make progress.

I wonder how many people have similar ideas for alts and main characters in a game. I figure the developers have made the game for all these different races and classes how can I possibly see everything if I’ve only got a single character.

A Look Back at SDCC 2019 – Miraculous

On Friday at Comic-Con, I made it into the Miraculous panel in the course of waiting for something else (The Terror: Infamy and The Rook) and I was pleasantly surprised.

Panelists will provide a sneak peek into upcoming Miraculous seasons, share new entertainment reveals including movies and new shows, and offer giveaways! The voice actors of Miraculous will host, and an exciting time will be had by all.

This animated series is pretty cool. I guess the actual name is Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Nior and it can be found on Netflix and the Disney channel, though who knows if it’ll still be on Netflix when the new Disney streaming service starts up.
Regardless, some of the voice actors were on the panel and I always find them preferable to actual actors who seem to think they need to be over the top when they show up at Comic-Con. They talked about the previous seasons and the upcoming season and even showed some footage from an episode which was nice since I’ve never seen the show before.

The target audience is well below my demographic but that’s never stopped me from watching well written, well drawn, and enjoyable programming. And I’m glad I had this post segment on my Trello board since it reminded me that I wanted to record a few episodes to see if Mrs. Redshirt wanted to watch the show as well.

Marvel Unlimited New Release Monday

As usual, Marvel released their new additions to their Marvel Unlimited service today and I take a look at the new releases from January 30th, 2019.

This week I’m looking forward to checking out a bunch of new Marvel issues but my interest is particularly piqued by the following 3 titles…

  • The Unstoppable Wasp #4 by Jeremy Whitley and Gurihiru. I always felt that in the original 1960s run, the Wasp didn’t get her proper due and with this series (there might me other Wasp series before this, I am not sure), she is the center of attention. They’ve already release 4 issues so I figure it’s a good time to jump in and see how she’s doing.
  • West Coast Avengers #7 by Kelly Thompson and Daniele Di Nicuolo. Living on the West Coast I like seeing it represented in comics since most Marvel and DC seem to happen in New York or Chicago. San Diego isn’t usually considered Southern California by natives but it is certainly West Coast and regardless, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by Kelly Thompson so this should continue to be good.
  • Age of X-Man: Alpha #1 by Zac Thompson, Lonnie NAdler, and Ramon Rosanas. I’m not really sure what to expect with this title but from my understanding, it’s a big part of where the mutants are headed in 2019. I’ve been reading House of X and Powers of X and I’m pretty sure this is the prologue for those titles.

There’s more to read, including more top picks in my post later today but I wanted to highlight these 3 since they particularly interest me.

It’s a Wrap

So there you have it…3 comics that I think will be pretty interesting, an animated TV show that looks promising, and some silliness about playing 3 characters at once. Quite a bit of rambling on this Monday but I hope this is the start of a good week of gaming, comics, rambling, and fun.
