Superheroes and…Superheroes

Today I spend my time with some superheroes both in gaming and comics. I take a glance at the top DC Comics I wanted to specifically look at from this week’s new DC Universe releases and end up with a Batman, a Flash, and a couple of Wonder Twins. As for gaming, I rambled over to Tales of the Aggronaut to see that Belghast was playing City of Heroes. There just isn’t enough time to play all the games I’ve enjoyed over the year, but CoH is one I might jump back into again soon.

The Aggronaut Revisits City of Heroes

Another day, another blogger, I follow talking about a game I enjoy playing. Today it’s City of Heroes being discussed by Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut. You might be saying…hasn’t CoX been shut down for years, and you’d be right, but the last few months have seen quite a bit of activity on the reincarnation front. As Belghast mentions, the Homecoming server is alive a kicking and they’ve been rolling out updates and patches to keep things moving smoothly over the months. There’s even a lot of discussion that there might be some kind of official status coming soon.

I jumped on the server a bit ago and recreated a few of the heroes I used to have, and it’s just as fun as it ever was. So much nostalgia, so much enjoyment. It really is surprising that there hasn’t been any game that has been able to take advantage of what CoX laid down so many years ago.

If you ever enjoyed CoX in the past, I highly recommend giving the Homecoming server a chance…you’ll love it.

DC Comics Picks

As I did yesterday, I also wanted to touch base on my top three picks from the DC Universe releases this week. DC releases a bunch of issues to their service on Tuesday, and I actually had purchased one of the issues previously.

Wonder Twins #1 by Marl Russell is an exciting take on the superhero duo that many of us grew up with on the Super Friends cartoon. San and Jayna need to venture into the wonderful world of high school, and while they’ve got superpowers, they can’t always save the twins from their fellow students. I already read this one and enjoyed it though I wish there were more Gleek.

The Batman Who Laughs by Scott Snyder is another issue that I previously purchased and am now seeing again on DC Universe. I never read this one, though, as I was waiting for the opportunity to read the whole arc at once. From my understanding, though, this is another good story and does a good job continuing one of the big Batman stories of the Rebirth era – Dark Knights: Metal.

The Flash #64 by Joshua Williamson is a crossover with Batman. The whole story is called The Price of Justice, and it looks pretty good. This issue of Flash is the 2nd part of the story that started in Batman #64, and so far, I’ve enjoyed the couple of crossovers I’ve read featuring these two heroes. I can’t wait to see where this arc leads.

It’s a Wrap

A couple of Batmen, a Flash, and a Wonder Twins, and I think I’m pretty well set for superheroes in the DC Universe, and with City of Heroes back on the Homecoming server, I feel pretty good on the gaming front. I suppose today was a superhero day, but then…with comics and gaming, many days are just like this one. I hope you find games that you enjoy and fun stuff to read as I have, and if you need further suggestions, let me know – I’ve got a bunch that I’m gonna keep rambling about.
