Skunks, Mongooses (or is it Mongeese?), and Angels

What is the commonality between a tie, a loss, and a potential? They’re all part of my ramble today as I look at the Wild Card matchup in March Mammal Madness and the day in Angel games.

Another Tie Game

These ties are really starting to annoy me, but I suppose today’s was a welcome sight after the 4 run 9th inning. It was good to see the team rally from behind to at least tie it up at the end of the game. I would have preferred one more run or a better performance throughout the game, but the late-game rally showed determination and spirit, and I think those are both gonna be needed through the long MLB season.

The other game wasn’t quite as good with the Angels failing to take advantage of numerous scoring attempts. This is the type of game I fear in the regular season. The offense really needs to hit when players are in scoring position, or all the home runs in the world are gonna go to waste. So many opportunities lost, and with a pitching staff that is on the edge of being a serious question mark, you can’t let that happen.

March Mammal Madness

The first match of the tournament is tomorrow, and it features the Wild Card showdown between the Grandidier’s “Mongoose” and the Pygmy Spotted Skunk. Back in 2017, the “normal-sized” Spotted Skunk made it into the second round to take on the Spectacled Bear. They had a good match there, but the Bear won out.

In last year’s tournament, the Mongoose had a buddy…the Warthog. These two actually made it into the Final Roar but lost to the Tiger. This year’s Grandidier’s “Mongoose” is all by himself and might get a bit lonely with the mean ole skunk as an opponent.

With the Mongoose coming into the battle from a tiny section Madagascar and the Skunk representing the Pacific coast of Mexico, the match could come down to the exosystem of the battle. In my book, however, I’m thinking that no matter where the fight takes place, there is most likely going to be air which will offer the Skunk a good chance at firing off it’s main weapon.

I’m gonna place my bet on the Pygmy Spotted Skunk advancing into the round of 64, but it could be a close engagement.

It’s a Wrap

So there you have it…I’m looking forward to a good fight between the Mongoose and the Skunk, and I certainly don’t expect a tie. Those are only happening in Spring Training baseball these days as we saw with the Angels earlier today. As the season creeps closer, though, I’m getting more eager to see clear cut decisions – either a win or a loss. Let’s get this season started, and let’s get this March Mammal Madness tournament rolling.
