Preparing to Succession

Well, I finally got around to reading all the previous posts in the Blapril Civilization VI Succession Game and was ready to get rolling with my shot at playing Queen when this happened.

Maya Drop

Yup, as I prepared to load up Civ VI I was innundated with an announcement for the New Frontier Pass for Civilization VI. Not only was this a new thing to me, but it also started a couple days ago.

Yeah, the Maya and Gran Colombia pack dropped already and were jsut waiting for me to click the purchase button.

Ok…well, that didn’t prevent me from actually diving in to my Civ Succession game but the rabbit hole I dove down once I saw the new content did eat up the time I had to play.

So here as some of the details:

  • The New Frontier Pass is kinda like a subscription for a series of small expansion packs. There are gonna be sic of them starting this month (actually available now) and coming every few months until March 2021.
  • Each pack in the New Frontier Pass is gonna have at least one new civilization and a bunch of new stuff – new leaders, new districts, new game modes, new city-states, new great people.
  • From what I can tell, this New Frontier Pass is available on all platforms – PC, Steam, Switch, PS4, and Xbox. The only platform I did not see the pass available on is iOS but I would suspect that it’s coming sometime soon.

Anyway, I immediately purchased the pass and got it downloaded, but the bottom line is I did not get the chance to finish off my entire shift as leader of mighty England. I’ll finish things off tomorrow and get things posted soon.

  1. Haha. I’ve been looking into this pack too — but it’s pretty pricey! $65 NZD. That’s enough to make me hold off and watch from the sidelines for now.

    • It is pretty pricey but I figure it’ll provide content for the next year so it’ll be a decent investment.

  2. The latest expansion turned me off from Civ 6 anymore. I think I preferred the base game without either of the expansions, tbh. I hope that these packs are enjoyable for you, but for me, well….

Here’s the summary of why I stopped playing it

“All in all, it makes the whole thing just feel like a jumbled mess of annoyances and inconveniences. My enjoyment of this game is just completely wiped out. But if you like it, well.. diff’rent strokes and all that. I just know I haven’t felt the urge to play it all at since that 1st week after it came out, nor to watch any streamers play it or anything.”

I’ve been enjoying reading about the succession game, so I’ve been tempted to fire it back up and turn off the expansions and give it another go. Guess I’ll see if I resist that temptation or not…

    • Sorry you don’t like the latest version but at least the Blapril Succession game has grabbed your attention. I agree with some of your points about the negative aspects of the game but then I see it as part of learning a new game which things really are with the last expansion. We’ll see how these incremental packs do but even if they’re a flop, I still like to see how the game evolves.

I actually have been playing a lot more on my iPad since it is the same experience as PC. Being able to take such a deatiled game along with me where ever I go is a blast.
