Going Deep

Today was a day for going deep while having some fun reading and watching baseball. My Angels played today, and it was pretty much the Shohei Ohtani show, which was a lot of fun to watch. On the reading side, I kept going with The Rook as our main character continued to dig deeper into the mystery of who was going to attack her.

Long Gone

468 feet! That was the distance estimated on Shohei Ohtani’s home run today, and it was impressive. Hit to dead center field; the ball cleared what is called the “batter’s eye” – I guess that’s because when you’re at the plate, it is the thing you see behind the pitcher’s head.

In any case, Shohei smacked a 2-run home run on the way to leading the Angels to a 6 to 2 victory over the Texas Rangers. I can only hope that his pitching is in as good a shape as his hitting since he’s batting .600 with this nice home run.

According to the team, he’s set to pitch in his first Spring Training game on Friday…I know I’ll be watching

Standard Operating Procedures

Yesterday we discovered there was a bunch of money that had been funneled from the Checquy coffers to…somewhere. Today we Thomas found out where. In chapter 18, we learn of how she infiltrated Camp Caius and learned about the questionable activities that went on there. Then something happens in Myfanwy’s timeline, and she has to deal with a real incident. Apparently, there was a supernatural occurrence in Bath, and a Rook was required on the scene.

It was a pretty good conflict and a creepy situation which Myfanwy found herself in and one that required “standard operating procedures”. While she had the American Bishop, Shantay, with her, it was definitely not something she was used to dealing with.

Things are definitely ramping up in these chapters though we’re not much closer to figuring out who caused Thomas to lose her memories.

It’s a Wrap

Home runs and new discoveries in The Rook made today a good day. It’s always enjoyable to see my Angels win, and when Ohtani can show that he’s on track for a good season, it’s even better. Reading is also better when there’s a mystery to solve and lots of action.
