History, Attacks, and Hope

Today I have to say that the thing that excites me most is Thor coming to my Angels. If he even comes close to pitching like he is capable of, the Angels will have a legitimate Ace. As I gear up to simulate a mulligan of the 2021 season in Out of the Park Baseball, I’m thinking I might also start up a Ragnarok League to see what could have been if the Angels had Thor last season.

Anyway, in addition to the MLB news, I read through another chapter of The Eye of the World, and things are starting to happen, and the Dark Rider’s minions are no longer satisfied with observing. I also continued my Running California virtual run and made it to the Historic City Hall in San Clemente…not too bad leaving from the Mexico border not too long ago.

The Goods

History in San Clemente

The Historic City Hall in San Clemente has been around since 1929.  It sits on El Camino Real (the main road connecting California’s Spanish missions) and clearly shows the Spanish influence in architecture that epitomizes Southern California.  As the southernmost coastal city in Orange County, the downtown area serves as a great place to stop on trips between San Diego and Los Angeles.  Close by is La Casa Pacifica, where President Nixon made his Western White House.

In any case, it was just a short run down the road from the San Clemente Pier, so the City Hall made for a perfect destination on my virtual run today.

Securing the Farm

Actually, chapter 5 (Winternight) of The Eye of the World is less about security and more about running for their lives.

Rand and Tam came home from Edmond’s Field to set things in order before the next day’s festival, and as they were locking the place down for the night, they were attacked by Trollocs. These guys are the Wheel of Time’s version of Orcs – minions of the Dark One and foot soldiers of Evil.

With some improvised weapons and knowledge of the area, Rand and Tam are able to escape the attack and run off into the forest but not before Tam is injured.

Ragnarok Comes to Anaheim

I am very excited to see that Noah Syndergaard has signed up to play for my Angels next season.  Sure, he’s missed the past 2 years recovering from Tommy John surgery, but if there’s anything the Angels training staff knows, it’s how to help pitchers who’ve undergone Tommy John surgery.

Whether he recovers fully and returns to his dominant form is only part of why I am excited. The other is the fact that the Angels finally seem to be doing something to take steps towards getting the pitching they need to compliment Trout, Ohtani, and Rendon. They’ve got the offensive pieces to be a contender, and hopefully, they are finally moving in the right direction with their pitching.

It’s a Wrap

History, attacks, and hope make today an exciting day. I’m continuing to keep up my running and tracking my virtual progress as I trek up California, and I’d have to say that my consistent running is one of the better things to have come out of this pandemic.

The acquisition of a big-name starting pitcher makes me excited for the 2022 MLB season to get started ASAP, and as I start to get into the meat of the story, The Eye of the World is getting quite enjoyable.

Overall, today was a good day, and I hope you all had an interesting and enjoyable day as well.
