LOTRO Legacy and Lostsa Batman

Daily Ramble 42

In today’s ramble I talk about the new server that’s coming to Lord of the Rings Online and it might just be my best bet for finally leveling up a character in that world. I also break ground on Batman: The Long Halloween on the DC Universe service. Finally, I take a look at some of the stuff coming and going in the DCU rotation. I’m. It a big fan of the quick turnaround for comics, tv, and movies, but at this point it’s the only thing they’re offering. Oh yeah, and I did pay for a year so I might as well get my money’s worth and see if it gets any better.

Legendary Server

I suppose it’s at least a week ago that I saw the announcement, but I’m finally mentioning the fact that Lord of the Rings Online will be starting up a progression server. The basic idea is not really to relive LOTRO as it was way back when but instead to take the current state of the characters and limit them to the first 50 levels and original areas of the game.
Considering I’ve never reached level 50 nor explored all the original areas of the game I’m thinking I might just see about joining in with the rest of the legendary players to get the experience of leveling up with a large group. Drop me a comment if you’re think of joining in on the fun.

First Look at Part 1 of Batman: The Long Halloween

Part 1 (of 13) of the graphic novel covers quite a lot of ground in setting up the whole idea for The Long Halloween. Basically Batman, Captain Gordon, and District Attorney Dent are engaged in the opening skirmishes of a war with crime boss, Carmine “The Roman” Falcone. A bank president is gunned down, a warehouse full of money is set on fire, and Harvey Dent’s house is blown up, and in the middle of all this, someone murders Falcone’s nephew. Was it one of the 3 crime fighters? Was it Catwoman who helped Batman and has a million dollar hit out on her from The Roman? Was it Salvatore “The Boss” Maroni who runs a rival gang? Well, this is the first issue after all so we don’t know who done it yet, but it’s a really nice setup and one that certainly has me looking to read more.

DC Universe changes

This week on DC Universe we’re getting the opportunity to continue reading Batman: The Long Halloween which came onto the service last week. These 13 issues will stick around until November 5th so you’ve still got another week to read them and from the reading I’ve done, they’re a pretty quick read even though they may seem like a lot. Based on postings from the mods, Batman: Dark Victory is also starting it’s availability this week. This is a 14 issue followup to The Long Halloween and apparently it goes further into the aftermath of the Holiday Killer. This title is written and drawn by the same creative team and I would expect it to stick around for a couple weeks just like The Long Halloween is doing so I expect to see this leave on 11/12.

Along with comics that are falling out of rotation, there movies are also being moved out. As of November 1st you will no longer be able to watch Batman Begins or The Dark Knight, at least until they become available again. I think this might be one of the more frustrating parts of DC Universe – you never know when something might be coming to the service until about a week beforehand and when it leaves, you never know if or when it’s coming back.
