2019MMM Jump Jump Round 1 Results

The bottom line on this first day of March Mammal Madness is that my selections did not have the Eye of the Tiger…well, except for the Bengal Tiger that is. My team went a resounding 4–4 for the night and I’m off to a mediocre start for the tournament.

What a day of battles, stating off with the only upset I selected. The #9 Jackrabbit didn’t have what it took to knock off the #8 Springhare. It may have been as close as a kick in the pants but my guy still lost the match.

Next on to a battle that featured one of my few victories of the night…The Spinner Dolphin vs. the Spinifex Hopping Mouse. Yeah…I really didn’t have much doubt here.

The next battle was another I selected correctly but that pretty just means there are a lot more that I missed on coming up. The Bengal Tiger could easily have lost to the Ringtail Cat if this was a contest of cuteness, but instead, the Tiger scared the Cat from the arena

Finally we come to the biggest upset of the night and most likely the entire tournament. While I’m not sure if it’s happened before, I think it’s a most unlikely outcome to see a #15 knock off a #2 but the tiny Streaked Tenrec let loose a bunch of spikes to chase the Markhor out of the arena. Unbelievable! And crippling to many bracket watchers. If nothing else, this battle shows that anyone can be victorious if they try hard enough.

And that upset put things into motion for other dominoes to fall as the #5 seed Serval fell to the #12 Rock Wallaby and the #10 9-Banded Armadillo took down the #7 Sifaka.

The final 2 matches saw a bit of vindication for the committee that seeded the tournament as they actually placed the competitors in the correct spots as top seeded critters triumphed. The Bharal took down the cute Stoat and the Impala chases off the Klipspriner.

What a night of competition! Thursday features the first round of the Waterfalls division and with all the upsets today I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more top seeds go down.
