Running with Socks On

Another Sunday and another look at how well my running has been going. Today I take a look at a bit of my gear as well to makethings a bit more interesting.

Weekly Running Results

This was another good week of running. I managed to clock over 28 miles again and I’m feeling pretty good about it. Actually, I’m tempted to increase my daily runs on Tuesday and Thursday by a little if I’m feeling up to it on those days. I’m pretty sure I can handle the increase but I may just keep things stable to burn in the fitness.

One thing I am looking forward to trying is to get up to 6 miles opn Sunday. I’ve been there before but it’s been a while since I logged more than 5 intentional miles. Some times I kept going after 5 but that’s usually at a slower pace because I just haveto get home.

Mrs. Redshirt asked it I had a goal in mind that I am ramping up my mileage for, but so far I’m not setting any targets. When they announced that hte boston Marathon was going virtual, I took a peek to see if they were opening it up to all runners, but I didn’t see any indications they were letting non-qualifiers to enter. Oh well…it’d be cool to give it a go and I’m pretty certain I could run the race in the timeframe they specify, but unless they makethe race open to anyone who wants to run it, I don’t know if I’ll ever qualify.

Anyway, I have no target race at this point, I’m just keeping my streak going and enjoying the runner’s high.

Running Gear

I figured that while I’m talking about my running, I’d throw out some suggestions about the gear that I use, starting with socks.

Actually, I use 2 different socks so I’ll start with my baselayer sock…the Injinji Toe Socks.

These are great and I’ve been using toe socks since I started running way back when.

I was always worried that if I did a lot of running, I’d start to develop blisters on my feet. That was not gonna work for me so I decided early on in my running ‘career’ that I was gonna make sure to protect my feet.

So I found the Injinji socks. These socks have places for my toes to go so it keeps them all seperate which means they won’t rub against each other. That basically eliminates or at least significantly reduces the chances that I’ll get any blisters on my toes.

And in reality, I highly recommend them since I can’t recall ever getting any blisters. Of coures, I’ll knock on wood right now, but they seem to work really well and if you’re looking to get into running, go out and try some on.

It’s a Wrap

So yeah…I definitely suggest that if you’re lookiong to get into running, you go out and try out the Injinji socks. They work great and keep your feet nice and comfortable.

Next time I’ll mention the outler sock layer I wear. Yup, I wear two socks to run. With the inner toe sock layer keeping everything seperate so they don’t rub, the outer layer performs a different function.

Until next week, I hope you’re able to stay blister free and enjoying the fitness activities you find the most fun with.
