Picking Brackets, Picking Comics, and Picking Apart Elden Ring

Today is the first day of Lent, but I’m not gonna let that hold me back. I’ve got a full set of things going on, including laying out the 3rd and 4th seeds in the four divisions of my March Gaming Madness. It’s also Wednesday, so of course, it’s time to pick out the comics I am interested in this week. Anyway, here we go…

The Rundown

  • Brackets Started in March Gaming Madness Tournament
  • Filling in the 3rd and 4th seeds
  • Picking my Pulled Comics

The Goods

  • Latest DC Releases
After my comments about Superman vs. Lobo yesterday, I saw that it’s not very highly rated on the various sites I follow. Wonder Woman Black & Gold actually had the highest average rating, though, so I’m sure I’ll read that issue. The other two titles that were well regarded were Superman ’78 and Robin #5. Those three will undoubtedly end up on my backlog of reading material
  • Six Degrees of my Blogosphere
Belghast commented on Elden Ring reviews recently and I had a thought on how I would rate the game based on my first impression – I’d knock off at least a point based on all the waste of time ‘tip messages’ strewn all over the tutorial. Someone who is coming into the game for the first time is gonna waste a bunch of time and lose a lot of enjoyment by all the crap that idiots have scrawled on the floor of the game. I’ve only been in the game for about 30 minutes, but I am pretty sure I have found absolutely NOTHING written in these ‘messages’ that have any relevance to the actual game. They’re basically the Dark Souls/Elden Ring/From Software version of ‘First’ forum posts – such a waste of time and would definitely knock my rating of the game to a starting point of 9 instead of 10. We’ll see if the game can even rate a 9 in my book as I continue to look at it.
  • Brackets Started in March Maming Madness Tournament
In an odd twist of convergence, 2 out of the 8 games I randomly selected for the first 2 seeds of my March Gaming Madness tournament were made by From Software…the creators of Elden Ring. I know for a fact that Dark Souls 2 has the pathetic ‘message’ scrawl, but I’m not sure about Sekiro since I’ve never installed the game.
In any case, I picked out 8 games for the number one and two seeds for my tournament yesterday. The RNG gods picked out a couple of Souls-type games, a couple of newer games, a couple from Square Enix, a survival and crafting game, and a classic. I think the diversity is good, and it’ll be interesting to see how the matches are laid out over the next couple of days.
  • Filling in the 3rd and 4th seeds
Today, I take a look at the next set of 8 games as I pick the 3 and 4 seeds for each of the divisions. I’ve still got over 70 games in my selection pool with some big names that could easily perform well against the number ones and two seeds. Once again, these 3 and 4 seeds won’t have to face each other for a few rounds if they even make it that far but with RNG in control, we could see some definitive underdog placed in this level.
  • Picking my Pulled Comics
With today being Wednesday, it’s another fun day of Comic Pulls. As Jaedia mentioned in her post I commented on yesterday, The Me You Love In The Dark volume 1 comes out today, but I’ve already purchased the individual floppies for that. The one DC title I actually have been buying rather than waiting for it to come out on the DC subscription service – The Nice House on the Lake – comes out today with issue 7, and the second issue of the Cowboy Bebop comic from Titan Comics is also coming today. Plenty of good things to take a look at.

It’s a Wrap

As mentioned, the fact that Lent starts today is not slowing me down. I was able to look at the new DC releases on Fat Tuesday, so why not pull new comics today? I also think it’s interesting that with so much discussion about Dark Souls type games, I picked 2 of them for my top seeds in my March Gaming Madness tournament.

In any case, I’m looking forward to making the rest of today a good one, and I hope you all have a great day.
