Baseball and Tournaments – We Must Have Sprung Ahead

So it’s now Monday, and I am still recovering from all the happenings from the past week, but I am looking forward to the kickoff of the 2022 March Mammal Madness tournament later today. I’m putting the finishing touches on my own tournament, but I think I might hold off another day or so before I roll out seeds 15, 16, and the wild card games for my March Gaming Madness tournament. The big exciting news, for me at least, is that MLB is back. After the fighting and name-calling of the past few months…actually, it seemed like they barely spoke to each other…the players and owners have finally decided how to split all the money that MLB rakes in.

Looking at the March Mammal Madness kickoff, we’re gonna get the battle of the Bats today. The Mexican Free-Tailed Bat versus the Florida Bonneted Bat, and I have to say that while I don’t know much, if anything, about either, I am rooting for the Mexican Free-Tailed Bat. I mean, he’s Mexican, and he’s free-tailed, so what’s not to like. We’ll see how the match goes later today as they narrate the battle around 5pm PDT. YES, PDT, since we lost an hour this past weekend along with all the other stuff I was dealing with.

As far as the March Gaming Madness tournament goes, I am pretty much ready with seeds 15 and 16, but I’m not sure what’s I’m doing with the last few 16th rounders and the Wild Card. I’ll figure things out soon, though, and get something put together to finalize the field of 65.

And…Baseball is back! I am pretty excited to see that we will get a full 162 game season with full 9 inning doubleheaders. We also will have a universal DH so pitchers will not be a free out in the NL anymore. Sure, it will mean that one-dimensional players who can only hit the ball will be on all 30 teams, but I think that will increase some of the excitement. I am an AL fan at heart, though.

Of course, my Angels got off to the new season with a whimper. After making some decent splashes before the lockout, there has been ZERO news from my team since December 1st. Apparently, the front office took a 3-month vacation and did nothing related to improving the team. No work on getting another starting pitcher they desperately need…no work on getting a shortstop from the large free agent pool of middle infielders, no work on getting relief help, and no work on picking up a catcher. Instead, you see the Yankees have been busy, the Dodger too…Houston is making moves; Seattle, Oakland, and even Texas, who picked up some really big pieces before the lockout, have made a move. What’s up with my Angels? I guess they’re complacent to sit on a recovering starter who’s barely played a game in 2 years, some rookies, and players who missed most of last season because of injury.

I don’t get it, but I’m excited to see how things go this season. Maybe a full season of Trout, Ohtani, Rendon, Walsh, Adell, Marsh, and Thor will be enough to reach the new playoff system
